Sweating is a normal physiological response when we become hot during our daily activities or exercise – sweating helps to cool down our bodies. Sometimes these sweat glands start to over function without any obvious trigger causing excessive sweating.
This condition is also known as hyperhidrosis. Sweating can occur at unwarranted times and can significantly deteriorate the quality of life. This can be a great source of social anxiety and embarrassment.
Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) can affect, underarms (armpits), hands, or feet. This can be due to a variety of reasons and the most common is genetic predisposition. Other reasons can be from hyperthyroidism, diabetes, obesity, or neurological disorder.
The most effective treatment for hyperhidrosis is injecting Botox. Studies found that this treatment successfully reduces sweating by a minimum of 75%.
